Family Medicine
The Family Medicine Department is the entry point through which most patients enter the hospital as well as the department responsible for continuity of care for individual patients and families.
Healthcare to the patient often involves interaction between the doctor, the patient and the family and the Family Physician takes responsibility for the coordination of care provided by other physicians. Therefore, the Family Physician often cares for the family as “patient” with due consideration of the illness of the patient, the family dynamics and the social factors that influence the illness.
Patients of both genders, all ages and with any symptom are cared for in the department. Appropriate referrals to other physicians or for special investigations are made when required and continuity of care is inherent to the care rendered by the Family Physician. The department operates on an appointment system for consultations but patients with acute health problems are welcome to attend the Acute Care section situated in the Accident and Emergency Department of the hospital.
