EDC aims to make the UAE healthier by offering free health check-ups on World Health Day
01 Apr 2010
EDC is offering free health screening for the public on April 7th, to mark the 2010 World Health Day - A World Health Organisation (WHO) initiative. The free health checks will include blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index (BMI) tests, which will provide a general indication of an individual’s overall health.
The tests will be available on a drop-in basis from 09.00 to 14.00hrs. Free advice on ways to adopt and live a physically active and healthy life will also be provided to all visitors, by medical professionals.
“Each year, World Health Day seeks to raise awareness about living a healthy life and it encourages individuals across the globe to take charge of their personal health and wellbeing,” said Dr. Lisa Pinto, Group Manager Clinics. “Our present lifestyle is associated with many health challenges related including tobacco use, unhealthy diets, physical inactivity, occupational stress and chronic conditions like obesity hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. By offering these quick, efficient and potentially life-altering tests to people across our local community, we are not only bringing attention to the work of the WHO and the aims of World Health Day, but we are helping to make our community to chose healthier, happier and more productive lives.”
World Health Day annually seeks to raise awareness of key health issues that affect people around the globe. The theme for this year’s event is Urbanisation and Health, which calls on cities worldwide to open up their streets for health activities.
